At the first Design for Manufacturing Summit the industrial design panel, with Pamela Liou, Jessica Banks and Bill Washabaugh, was asked how traditional manufacturing could benefit from the latest digital design methods. A more integrated and lean approach may be the key to bringing manufacturing back.

RockPaperRobot is a maker, not a manufacturer

MIT trained robotics engineer Jessica Banks produces kinetic furniture with RockPaperRobot. She is reluctant to call herself a manufacturer. 'A maker is more apt,' she says. If manufacturing has a bad connotation, 'there is usually a way to fix anything'.
